The meld score calculator met their requirements and was accepted as the criterion for allocating organs for liver transplantation. We modified the acronym "MELD" to "Model for End-Stage Liver Disease" in the hopes that the score would be more widely recognised by the liver transplant community if it wasn't tied to a single hospital.
